Vocabulary

1. Tyrant- A cruel and oppressive ruler
2. Appeasement- making concessions to an aggressor in order to avoid conflict; the policy of giving in the demands of a potential enemy in order to avoid conflict
3. Militarism- a belief in increasing a nation's military strength as the way to become or remain powerful. The glorification of military virtues and ideals.
4. Nationalism- Pride and devotion to one's nation; also the idea that a people that a people with common language, culture, and history should have its own nation state.
5. Depression- A sustained, long term downturn in economic activity.
6. Alliance- A union formed for mutual benefit
7. Inflation- A rise in prices caused by an increase in the supply of money and a resulting decline in value
8. Propaganda- ideas, allegations, and other information that is spread deliberately and purposely, without regard to its accuracy, to further and gain support for a cause or damage an opposing cause , and that it is often exaggerated or false.
9. Totalitarianism- A governing system in which a ruling elite holds all power and controls all aspects of scoiety, allowing no opposition and often maintaning power with the use of terror and secret police.
